92 240 No Start

Post by jeffmaciejewski »

Hey folks--my 1992 Volvo 240 stopped running this morning while I was stopped at a stop sign. It wouldn't restart. Had to have the darn thing towed home.

The engine cranks but won't start. I've checked the timing belt: it's worn but in tact. I've put my ear near the gas filler cap while my wife turned on the ignition and I can hear the in-tank fuel pump whir. I've put my ear under the car and turned on the ignition and it sounds like the main pump is clicking. All the fuses in the fuse box are OK.

I'm at a loss. A guy at IPD said to check various sensors: oxygen sensor, crank speed sensor (?).

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Has the fuel filter been changed in the last 2 years? Also, the top of the forum tells you how to get OBD codes which will help everyone help you figure things out.

Good luck,

Dave

Aloha,

I just had a similar issues with my 940. Cranks and cranks but no start. I changed both fuel pumps and filters, changed the MAS, the fuel injection relay and the radio suppression relay. Come to find out it was the crank relay. I would definitely recommend changing that before you attempt to change the fuel pumps. Hope this helps.
