lost the battle I'm afraid.. my local dealer called Volvo Customer Services only after I had agreed to leave the car with them.. said that Customer Services wouldn't deal with the call unless they were sure that no more miles would be driven from the point of their decision.. ho hum.

Volvo's response was they have no intention at present to follow suit (referring to the warranty extension in the US)... the reasons stated were:

1. because there have not been enough failures reported.
2. my car has driven over 60K miles
3. the car hasn't been serviced via a Volvo outlet since 60K..

Can't understand the latter to be honest as I thought it was a non maintained part and the car has clearly been serviced regimentally every 12Kmiles.. albeit by a reputable but non-volvo outlet.

I need the car on the road so I have been forced to get it sorted and on the road so that I can commute to work. :?

I will follow up on this though direct with Volvo i.e. battle lost but the war'll rage on.. not really, will send them a short letter a month to pester them in to paying up.

Next step to get in touch with the guy was more successful than I to find out the dealer he went through..

This may soon be avaliable in the UK following the increase in complaints and the obvious safety concerns, which will seriously damage their reputation.

Could possibly also see a full recall because of the safety concerns.

There's not been many cases reported and Volvo just don't admit the problem over here, now people are becoming ever increasingly aware of it they can tell when they are being fobbed off.

Unfortunately I missed the actual broadcast but Volvo's ETM problem was broadcast on Watchdog last week. A summary can be found at the following address:
