At the moment the engine is a stock 220,000 mile 2.3, but I have another bottom end with 'H' beam rods waiting to go in when the turbo is replaced and the boost wound upprecopster wrote:After seeing so many repeats of the same old configuration in everyone's Volvo this has me VERY INTERESTED and RHD too.
Can you enlighten me as to what mods were done to standard engine parts (if any) to handle the extra pressures?

Lots of questions come up....like those having to do withthe boost's effect on top end of engine, valves, head gasket, pistons and then, of course the lower end (crank) not to mention torque output versus transmission capabilities! Geez! What kind of life do ou expect from this beast?? amazing sleeper!
The thing I'm most curious about is the immediate boost you get from a supercharger (direct drive to engine) versus the turbo lag. If the turbo is slow on initial boost then with the super ramping up immediately, wouldn't you have an immediate vacuum in the turbo compressor/intercooler/ supercharger inlet? This, if correct brings questions of turbo inlet seals under vacuum, compressor stall, etc.
I guess you've already been there and penciled it all out as well as the dyno test. How is it going?
