94 850 stalling
My daughter was driving one day and the engine died, I managed to get it going again and it ran fine untill about two days ago and did the same thing. I finally got the engine to duplicate the orig. problem in the driveway. I kept nailing the throttle untill it started to bog down and eventualy die. The exhaust also smelled like rotten eggs. The only way to restart it is to hold the accel. all the way to the floor engine would idle fine but would die under a load. I again checked for codes in A2 socket and got 1-1-1 which I beleive is "no codes found" Could I have a bad O 2 sensor and still get no codes? Or is it likely I have a bad CAT I think I also ruled out a No fuel prob. I was thinking I had an intermittent fuel pump or clogged filter. But it was a far out quess.(grabin at straws) When it runs it runs fine I took it for a ride before I deliberatly tried to get it to die and it went like a banshee. Any help would be Realy appreciated as this is my daughters only transportation and No money to send it to a specialist(Volvo) "Folks Never buy a car on E bay unless you can drive it.... My 1993 850 has been experiencing problems in which the engine won't turn over. I don't remember the conditions when it started a few weeks ago, but this morning (after driving in very heavy rain) it wouldn't start. Haven't tried it recently, but don't think anything will have changed.
After it occured the first time, it fixed itself in under an hour. Then it occured again and after multiple hours, wouldn't start up, we got it toed and had a new battery put in (to replace the original battery which had completely died) and it worked just fine for the past week.
But, the front passenger-side window has not been working properly lately, so it is getting taken to a Volvo dealer reguarless, and we're going to get them to check the engine for problems. Considering the fact that when it first started having these problems, it would go for a little and then die, the problems might be caused by lack of air getting to the engine, like is stated in the first link, but I have no clue.
If I find anything out from them that might be of use to any of you, I'll make sure to let you know.

Hey,
Had a Volvo dealer check it out (damn, they're expensive). Apparently the gas pump needs to be replaced. They are asking $540 (+ $90 diagnosis charge which we have to pay) for the part and installation. But, a garage down the street will cost us $470 to get the car towed to, the part, and installation. So, that's a no brainer.
Too bad the problem had to have such a pricey fix...
Maybe this is what is causing problems in some of the other cars here?
