Odometer stops working ever now and then

What is up here? The ODO stop working every other time I reset the trip push in button for the lower rolling numbers.

Do I replace the cable or something inside the dash?

Don't push the button while moving. That's what breaks the little gears. It's probably missing a tooth or something though.

I had a similar problem. The odometer and speedometer are controled inputs from the ABS module. I had mine fixed by MattyMoo he did a great job at a very resonable price. I also changed the tiny gear in the intrument cluster. The top part of the dash and the instrument cluster are pretty easy to get out, there are some great postings to help with that. Be very careful removing the screws on the ABS module, they strip very easy and I got to grind the head off two of them, upside down and with a mirror, not fun! Good luck hope that helps

The '95 and earlier ABS module is a completely different animal and it really doesn't talk to the instrument cluster like the later year models do.

To Red Arrow's original question, the odometer gears are the most likely culprit if the speedometer still works. If the speedometer isn't working consistently along with the odometer then the speed sensor on the transmission is suspect.
