you don't mention what car it is and your profile only lists "1996".
Nothing Volvo made for USA in 1996 has a thermal expansion valve so those have orifices. If it is a 1996 850 it is in the small diameter line at a connection in front of timing belt cover on frame rail.
If it s a 1996 960 then it is in a similar place on RH frame rail in the small diameter line.
If it is not one of these two then give us the vehicle details.

Getting the accumulator/receiver/drier out is a bear. There is not sufficient space to get a wrench on the flare nut for the flex line that bolts to the accumulator.

You will need a set of spring clamp release tools before you even start but they are relatively cheap at any auto parts store.

The way I have dealt with mine is to remove the air guide at the bottom of the car, then remove the clamp that holds the accumulator in place. From there disconnect the spring clamp from the fixed tube in the system, slide the accumulator off, and lower the accumulator as far as it will go. At that point you can get on the flare nut with a couple of wrenches, one to hold the accumulator and the other to loosen the nut.

The flare nut is quite large, larger than 20mm as I recall.

Can somebody post a pic of what is a "set of spring clamp release tools?"

Because I will soon have the engine out, and the accumulator is verrrry rusty, I wonder if I should just replace it while it is easy to get at.
