Need some help here.
Talked to the mrs last night and she told me the tailgate on our V50 2005 is locked and wont open.
Another problem is that I`m away at work offshore and will not be back on terra firma until another week thus not beeing able to problemsolve first hand.
Things I`ve had her try...
- Check both keys, and that the metal part of key is snapped in. (Valet park thing)
- Listen for sound when she press the rubber covered switch on gate - NO SOUND
This leads me to believe it is either a fuse (#77) or the switch itself.
Read that the switch can be shorted, more correctly the wiring once the switch is out.
But i will not have her remove this switch and rubber cover. For the same reason she do not service my cars.. this includes checking the fuse/fuses. Sorry, no offence.
She plans on taking it by the dealer tomorrow posing the lady in distress. Hopefully they`ll check fuses and perhaps propose a fix.
Is this a common problem, and if so what is usually the cause?
Ohh and BTW, can the gate be opened from inside the car?
If it is the switch is that something I can buy online or will I have to settle for stealership prices?
(searched ipd and fcp but cant find anyone offering this switch)
Some illumination of this problem would be much appreciated.
Apparently our youngest must have fiddled with the inside lock flap switch on the inside, drivers door causing the gate to lock. The fix was to press unlock twice (rapid pressing) on this button and now gate opens as per normal operation. Cheers and good night.
SOLVED!! Tailgate locked and wont open, V50

I've got another potential solution. I did everything that all of the threads suggested (valet, unscrew/hotwire switch, double click internal unlock, etc). Nada.
Almost as a joke, I tried the "approach lighting" (it has a light bulb icon) button on my remote, and the trunk decided to pop open at that point. Still have some weirdness where the latch works/doesn't work intermittently, but at least I know now to just hit all of the buttons on the remote to see if it triggers the unlock mechanism.
Not exactly a selling point of the car....
