98 T-5 and Universal Converters

My 98 rattle can has a bad cat.....it rattles like rocks in a coffee can when it warm and needs to go!! I am looking to fix it on the cheap and seriously plan on using a Race cat with an O2 bung. The problem, sort of, is the diameter of the cat is 3in and I have no clue what the oem downpipe is.....I could measure it but that requires lots of work (lazy)......or should I try matching the diameter as close as possible.

There are numerous sizes available but the one I would like is a 3in model cause it looks like the best fit/emmisions stds and is the most reasonbly priced.

Any thoughts?

Jakub, go to Performance, and Aftermarket section of this forum and in the search this topic, type in the words cat-back exhaust. There you willl find what others have done. I did see one with a 3 inch Borla cat-back exhaust. You also google it.
