93 - 850 , ECC, No fan speed, flashing lights

Post by dahubb »

Went to turn up my AC fan and got nothing.Noticed that AC and recircuilate switchs were flashing when starting car.
Manuel tells me flashing means a problem with the Electronic Climate Conrol system.
My question is where do I start to find problem? Is the ECC in the on board dianostics? If so what port?
Any help appreiciated.

Pull the codes from Port B-1 and post them back.

Pulled codes from B1, first code was 414, next was 418. after reseting codes and starting car I only got code 418.
(no control signal to blower fan power stage)418 First thing I did was check fuses. Does this sound like blower motor bad?
Showed no signs of trouble before.
Thanks, I will continue to search forum for clues of what to check next.

In all likelihood the power stage is bad. You can test that theory by grounding the blue wire that goes to the fan. The fan should run full speed with the blue wire grounded.

The lower dash panel needs to come off which will reveal the torx screws that hold the hinges. Before you go that far release the arms on the door which is done with a small screwdriver or even a nail.

There is a small hole next to the arm where you need to insert "something" to release the arm.

After the door is off and you remove the screws that hold the glove box in place you will need to fight with the glove box itself a bit to get it to clear the latch hoop. That is a minimal fight as things go.

Quick question. To test power stage I need to ground blue wire to fan. So I assumming I do that at fan and that is below glove box?
thanks Dahubb

The easiest way to do it is to just run a jumper wire between the blue wire and the black wire at the power stage itself. The black wire is ground or at least it should be if the ground is good. You can unplug that connector from the power stage to make it easier. The power on the plus side at the fan (red wire) is always there, even with the key off.

Lee, thanks for all your help.
I grounded blue wire at power stage and fan ran at full power.
Sooo by reading all these post on this ECC issue code 418, The power stage should be bad, and need replacing.
I will look at other posts to see where is a good place to purchase one.
If someone has information please reply.
