transmision problem volvo 240

Hi EVERYBODY
I need your help. This morning my Volvo 240 automatic transmision could not stop at the reverse gear, and I also feal that it is kind of slipping in most of other gears as well. Do you think this is fluid problem or transmision? If it is transmision does anybody have a clue how much are the repairs for such things. I am a student from MA. Thank you so much.

volvo makes excellent technical publications for their vehicles (the best i have ever seen for any car) at someone else suggestion on this website i bought the wiring diagram and transmission book for my car (i have a manual) as i remember it was about 23$ each. I really do not know about your trans but i suggest buying the tech pub for your trans and from reading it you will be able to see if it is easy (shifter adj sounds easy) or not. Search volvo technical publications and you should be able to find their website. I will post if i find it.

I had my 1992 240 transmission rebuilt about 4 years ago by a shop in Atlanta for about $1300. They did a good job on it, and I'm glad I did it. Still have the car going on 6.5 years.

I hate to say this, but your symptoms are EXACTLY what I had when I had it rebuilt. Just take it into a shop and have them test it.

Just in case, also check to see if it is the OD solenoid (not likely) or kick-down cable.
