'90 240 no start - new cap/rotor/plugs/coil/fuel pump

I am going crazy trying to figure this out

The car has been down for almost 2 months now.

I replaced the following:
fuel filter-I dumped the fuel out and it was black?
fuel pump-old one was plugged with gravel
coil-wasn't getting good spark
dist. cap, rotor and plugs
fuses

Now I have fuel getting to the fuel rail, spark is good but it won't start. Fuel pump is good (new) and I've jumped it so it runs but STILL no start! I've tried using starter fluid and it starts and runs as long as I keep spraying but as soon as I stop it dies and no restart. Checked plugs to see if they are wet-they are not.

HELP please!! So far I've put over $300 in the car and I still can't figure it out. Thanks

There's a blade fuse located mounted near the battery. That might cause starting problems. The fuel relay under the dash passengers side. Are the wires connected correctly on the new fuel pump? How was the car running before the problems??

Hi,
All fuses were replaced just in case-2 in fuse box and one near battery.
Yup, all wires are connected correctly.
I jumped the pump at the relay and it ran with and without the relay. It is getting fuel or at least it's coming out the return line.
Car was running great before this. It just died. No sputtering nothing just died like some one shut off the key.

I wish I knew more about what to look for... Perhaps a bad connection with one of the vac lines..

How is the car now?
Question... Have you pulled any Fault codes from your car?

I went through a similar issue a few months ago.
Replaced all of the above that you did including a new BOSCH coil as well as a BOSCH Power Phase and nothing. My local Volvo mechanic then took the car and discovered it was my Ignition Module that went bad. Luckily for me he is honest and fair… Cost me $120 for a refurb module, diagnostic and labor.

Hi-

Our 1986 240 was dying on the road - turning off like you said as if someone turned off a switch. Once I replaced the ECU in the front right of the engine compartment with the same exact numbered one from a Volvo parts yard, the car stopped dying. (you can read my posts, but the short story is that I kept reinserting the ECU plug each time it died and it would be okay and run. After a while, though, that did not work.)

Did you get it to start?

I have found that when cars get flooded, the cylinder walls can be washed by the extra gas which means the compression is gone. You might try squirting a little oil down each cyclinder and see if that helps. (1/4 tsp max)
