Air condition Problem? Help it is hot outside!

I have a 2007 volvo XC90 85000miles luv it not a minute problem.... this is my third volvo.... driving it today in ms was hot 95+ the air condition stop cooling went back home after five min engine was smoking werid smell and now it will not start....engine light on! Help what could be wrong and the most important question how much will it cost to get it fix???? Never had a problem with a volvo before up to date on all maintence.... YES I am blonde and yes I am female so clueless here and quite honest scared my warranty is up !! Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Pull the engine plastic cover off, it has rubber sockets and the engine has plastic balls so the cover will pop off with not too much effort if you pull at the four corners.
Look at the black small pipe that runs across top forward part of motor and see if there is a coolant drip from where the black hose attaches to engine. The hose may have leaked on alternator below and alternator failed. WHen voltage gets low the A/C will stop and the battery will get weak and will not crank over as a result. The smoke and odor would be the hot steaming coolant and maybe electrical smell from alternator. Did you ever get a campaign notice for a coolant hose replacement?

I have had this happen to me once, and it makes perfect sense. When the air conditioner sweats or malfunctions, it will drip on the alternator. It is only a matter of time before there are issues with that. Make sure you repair the air conditioner before replacing the alternator. Otherwise, you will have the same issue.

It is not a/c condensate leakage on the 3.2 six. It is coolant from a vapor bleed line that goes to coolant tank. The line has a quick-connect end on the cylinder head above the alternator. There is a service bulletin, maybe a service campaign on it.
