I understand that a broken timing belt is bad, very bad and will cost me a lot of money to get fixed. Assuming that the damage is catastrophic, what is the typical price to get the engine repaired?
My mechanic (non Volvo guy) is giving me a low estimate of $2100 and a Catastrophic price of $4400, including 3 week turnaround. Do I have other options? Is a "new" engine a cheaper option? I am considering selling it for scrap/parts. What might it sell for as scrap/parts?
Thank you for your patience with my newb Qs.
2003 V40 with Broken Timing Belt
Sorry to hear of your timing belt LJ69. I would look into a rebuilt engine replacement but not until I found out the current value (blue book) of the vehicle. If the current value is below the cheapest repair or replacing the damaged engine with a used/rebuilt one, then it's a no brainer-scrap it.
