S60 Engine Fan Question

Post by jpfrantz »

I have an '07 S60 with 78k miles on it. I just noticed yesterday that the engine fan seems to be running all the time. As an experiment, I went out this morning and started the car and indeed the engine fan came on and looks to be running full bore (I don't know if it can speed up or down but it's rather loud). I don't recall this happening before and I don't know if the outside temp being about 80 already (summers in Houston...) might have something to do with it. My questions:

1. What could be the cause of the fan being on all the time?
2. How concerned should I be about this?
3. Is this something that I could possibly take care of myself?

Thanks in advance for any help.

JP

With a/c on and temp 80's or higher the fan will run within seconds of engine start. Turn off a/c and start it and see if the fan runs then.
That car has a variable speed fan just as a point of information.

Jimmy,

Thanks for the help. I'll try your suggestion, probably tomorrow morning as I am at work and my wife has the S60.
