OK. I did none of the above. I tried this and it worked!! I suppose it's just a "temporary" fix but so far, so good. Plus it was a free fix!

I wedged a wood shim inbetween the ABS module and the ABS pump. This will allow the connections to make a tighter fit.

On a previous volvo I owned, I sent my ABS module out to www.midwest-abs.com. I have used them before - they are great. I had my E-5 torx socket ready and everything and then I came across the link above.

I don't advocate doing that...I've had 2 modules (core returns) come to me physically burned up this year from people doing that. Your incoming power wires are on that harness...that's what the 4 large paired pins are inside. Under normal circumstances, those 4 large pairs never crack, but when you shim something in there and put pressure on them they will crack...and when those crack the heat generated from the current going through the cracked power pins will burn up the module.

Maybe in an instance where you had to have the car inspected that day...go for it. I wouldn't leave it that way for too long though.

I do appreciate the positive feedback, as always.

Pumping the brakes has caused the ABS on my Volvo and Dodge truck to fail.
The brakes work better now for me, but how do I turn off the idiot light?
In the old days, brakes locked up at the drop of a hat. Pumping was even taught in Driver's Ed.
And the only reason to EVER pump the brakes is to maintain steering control if heavy braking is needed.
Now, with ABS, It does the job a whole lot better than you ever will, guaranteed.

I hear what you're saying and went to the same school for a long time. I was sure I was right...
Then life and physics straightened me out. ABS really is a GOOD thing. Ask me how I know!

Do yourself a favor and fix it.

Ok, so the bottom line is I have to remove the ABS Module and have it repaired. That's fine.

My question is this: Once I remove the ABS module should I do anything to cover up the connector heads that will be left exposed? Maybe a plastic bag and a rubberband? Or maybe it is ok to leave it exposed a few weeks?

@Matty Moo - Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe a plastic bag and a rubberband?
I have fixed all of my own modules but it may take a day or two to take the time to get it done. That is precisely what I have done to protect the connectors so that the car can still be driven without worrying about corroding the connectors. Some of these I have done in the winter when they salt the crap out of the roads.

I covered the connectors - Do I need to cover the solenoid plungers, the rods that are sticking out that the ABS module was connected to?

Lastly, I am considering soldering it myself - does anyone know a detailed how-to link with pics and (hopefully) video?

Thanks,
Steve

You don't have to cover those....there isn't anything there that is open.

There's a monstrous thread on fixing them yourself, but I'm mobile and can't link to it.
