Wiring in new head unit 96 850 R

Post by Aussie850R »

Ok so I am in the process of wiring in a new head unit but am a bit stumped as to how Im going to get around the factory amp. The new head unit has a built in amp so I was thinking I may as well just bypass the factory amp and wire straight into the the existing speaker wires. My probelm is that I can see where the wires go into the top of the factory amp but cant see where the amp connects to the speakers themselves. Has anyone else managed to get around this? If so how?

Mine was already swapped over when I got it. But it's just hooked up all at the back of the radio. Not sure about the amp I haven't looked much into it. Mine had the double stack with phone. That has all been removed. Sorry doesn't help much. But I'm pretty sure the radio still sends individual signals to the amp for each speaker?.?

You will find another connector inside of the foam covered tape from the amp - that is the connector that leads directly to the speakers. It is a bit messy and sticky to peel the tape off.

Thanks Lee

I figured that out after tracing the wiring my main issue now is trying to find the constant and switched 12v. I had a bit of a bash with a multimeter and the two wires that are green with a brown stripe that go into the back of the head unit seem to carry a constant 12v while the yellow with black stripe seems to be switched but when i hook them up to the new head unit I get no joy.

I think its time to walk away and do something else for a bit before I start throwing things.
