Squeaking sound behind instrument panel

Post by Ghassan »

hi,

Since last year a squeak has developed that orginates behind the dashboard instrument panel. It seems to be coming out of the corner where the windshield bottom edge meets the 'A' pillar vertical edge. It usually comes on in cold weather and never in warm weather. Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks.
Ghassan.

Hi Ghassan,

I have the same fault, I have put it down to trim/IP(Instrument panel) plastic substrate that has contracted in the cold causing space for movement during vehicle operation. Also with age I beleive the plastic though it should be thermo fairly stable, has warped slightly and brought the hard portion of the IP plastic in contact with the windscreen.

When the weather is hotter the trim either relaxs in shape slighly taking it away from the glaze (If I have had the demist on hot for a long while the dash goes quieter/ sometimes altogether silent.

With more time I will either be loosening off the IP at it's mounting and seeing if there is a way of adjusting the tension/fit to the body of the car.
In the mean time some carefully postioned cockpit anti squeak spray through a straw will be happening very soon. Will keep you posted JP

Thanks. My car had an accident that involved side impact to both front quarter panels (About 6 years ago with the previous owner). If this squeak is an unheard of condition, could it be resulting from the consequence of the impact (ie if you are aware that your car may also have been involved in a similar situation)?

Thanks.
Ghassan.
