2004 XC90 Check Engine Light

2004 XC90 Check Engine Light

The 'check engine' light came on unexpectedly and won't go off. First instinct is to check all fluids (oil, brake, steering,coolant, windshied (grin) etc..) all seem fine. Engine is not making any unusual sounds/noises. How Urgent is it to get this checked? Live in Arizona, so it's very hot here lately - does that have any impact on this indicator?

"Check Engine" is usually an indicator of a problem in the emissions systems.

Press the read button on the stalk while you press the rear fog light button twice.You will have the DTC's that have been set being displayed as you repeatedly press the read button only, this will narrow down the problem. It will not reset the DTC but at least you are armed with more information.
