1999 C70, the dreaded ETM failure experience

Post by JsinnC70 »

My ETM has been slowly failing over the past 6000 miles or so. Well it finally failed completely. I was pulling into traffic at a busy intersection and sputter sputter, cough cough, choke, no power. I took it into the dealer today and they have one in stock, for $1200. Holy sh*t, I was thinking that price for the whole job not just the part. Its the third ETM that this car has had. I really hope this will be my last. If you had your ETM replaced how much did it cost you??

Go with the Xxmodex option. Guaranteed not to fail again, and for half the price. Check out the Don's ETM Room forum.

Thats 1200 bux just for the part. Ill post the total after labor when i get the bill.
From what ive seen and heard, the Xemodex ETM has compatibility issues with the C70. So i decided to go with the expensive but for sure thing.

The only "for sure thing" is that the 1200 dollar unit IS gonna die the same way...
Why would you buy the OEM version that's STILL guaranteed to fail?
AND spend twice as much doing it? For that kinda money, a phone call is cheap.
Read up at the ETM room and if you aren't sure that it'll work with your car -
CALL XeMODex.

Where and from who? Forget internet rumors - Facts can save you big money.
The C has same ETM that the wagon and sedan use. But don't take my word for it...

They're ripping you off.
Dealer cost on an ETM is about $500 or so
The NORMAL retail price is usually $850 or so plus softwarer and labor
You need to RUN from this dealer.

Go with a XeMODex or send me money
I can buy them for about $680 or so (IIRC)

And joining a forum, getting informed answers from dozens of people who have the benefit of hearing hundreds of testimonials who will receive no monetary gain from their advice based on years of experience is NOT a sure thing?

No offense, but info from forums is not always reliable. Usually its just people regurgitating what the've read other people post.

A member of my car club got the xemo etm unit, and had nothing but problems afterwards. He ended up selling the car.

Im way more interested in what the dealer cost on this unit is.
I called the other dealership in my area and they quoted the same price.
