IPD ecu update
Re: IPD ecu update
i put the ipd ecu update that i bought second hand. man, you can really feel the difference. i was wondering if i was going to be taken but there is a real big diffence in power. I bought it used for about 1/2 price. i dont think i would have bought one brand new as they are pretty expensive.

This kind of thing makes me happy. I'm looking at a BSR ECU remap to take my manual R to circa 300hp."You lost to a Volvo son! You lost to a VOLVO!"
Like you guys, we have some modded monsters over here that I can't get near, but waxing hot hatches and 5 year old V8s in my Volvo gives me wood. I even wear a hat when I drive to add to the effect.
250 hp is pretty good, but I cant wait for the ECU upgrade.

If you are thinking about updating the ECU, check out the ARD tune. Better, cheaper, faster ...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
If you think that just a chip/modded EDU will get you anything more than 270hp, you are fooling yourself.
In fact, for reaching more than 270hp you will absolutely need a modified exhaust because the stock one is too restrictive and will lead to uncomfortably high temperatures and backpressure in your turbo.
Read up some things at wothrline.com , that guy has been with Volvo back when the 850/V70 startet running.
As far as I know the TME mod is based on a modification he did for his own T5-R, I have an ECU modified by him in my 94 T5.
Along with a thinner panel filter and a TME exhaust (which is 70% less restrictive than the standard exhaust) my car now has about 270hp, give or take a few. It doesn't run hot and can sustain this power for long runs on the Autobahn.
The ECU has not been chipped but re-programmed, the emergency modes have been adjusted so no functionality or safety margins have been lost.
Plus, it is reset-proof and doesn't raise an alarm when the car goes for a service. No CEL either.
I will need a cat replacement though, because atm that's the most restrictive part of the whole exhaust system.
But real 300 hp on the road is impossible with "just a chip". You'll need far more for that. Not that it isn't possible, there are 850 out there running more than 400hp as a daily driver, but tuning in those regions = money sponge
I don't mean to make any tuning look bad, I just experienced that not a single one that claimed to give you more than 270hp could live up to its claim, most didn't even come close with a modified exhaus system.
