vacuum hose

Post by mrnoodleface »

Hey all!

So I was diving on the highway the other day and i decided to take advantage of the sweet downshift feature on my 2001 s80 t6... bad move i guess.

My car immediately lurched backwards then started stalling the minute i went under 5mph. I made it home and found that the big hose connected to the ETM had fallen off, so naturally I hooked it right back up. The stalling stopped! but unfortunately the terrible idling that went along with it did not. So i felt around under the engine to find a hose that had fallen off (see pic below)

the hose is very short so i though that the nipple it attaches to would be fairly easy to find, boy was i wrong. I've spent an hour and a half trying to find where this heckin' hose goes, with no avail.

I was hoping someone for more mechanically inclined then I could help me out. I'm no mechanic but I manage all my repairs myself (thanks to the net), so I know my way around an engine... Kind of... Anyways a diagram/picture would be extremely helpful, but I would graciously accept any input as to where i need to attach this hose. I'm assuming its the reason the car is crapping the bed, seeing as when i plug it up with my thumb it runs nice and smooth.

thanks in advance! (p.s. this site is the best)

Easy peasy. The nipple is on the underneath of the solid plastic duct . Look in the far top left of your second pic, theres a 2" (or so) hose, orienteted vertically thats attached to that upper 4" pipe. There are three nipples there, on the underneath, facing down. There's that big one (Compressor bypass) and two smaller ones. One small one goes to a TCV solenoid thats attached to the outside of the gearbox, and the other one belongs to the hose that dropped off.

It should still idle OK with that hose missing, so you might have a misfire. If you havent already, you will want to check all of the piping connections to make sure they are OK.

I just checked it out again, all three of those downward point nipples are connected, seems like its the other side of the connection that's missing. There is a T shaped tube connector the top of the T shape is connected at both ends (one end is connected to the downward pointing small nipple you speak of, and one goes off under the engine somewhere), but the bottom of the T is the one that's loose. thanks again for the help, and the quick response!

check the underneath of the inlet maniold, right in the middle. Thats the only other place I can think of for a pipe like that.
