Hello. I have a 2000 S80 w/turbo just under 178000 miles. Recently work done: replaced the radiator, about 3 weeks ago.
The problem I'm having now is this::
My car was a little shakey but we didn't think much of it. The next day my car started just fine. I went to a redlight about a mile down the road and got stopped. Once the light changed and I tried to go i heard a loud sound that I thought came from somewhere near the front right side of the car. The car jerked forward once and just stopped. I wasn't able to move forward at all. REVERSE works just fine, no problems at all. After trying 'D'/'3'/'2'/'1' I was finally able to get into a parking lot after revving up all the way in '1', very slowly. Once my husband got there he was able to get into '2' by reving up and was able to get the car home. We took the car to a place called 'Evans Autamotive' and they couldn't tell use anything at all except i need a transmission overhaul. (Couldn't or wouldn't tell me what was checked/not checked, codes, NOTHING at al!) I've talked to a few people who have volvos and they've told me about changing a transmission screen. Told me that you can take off the trans pan under the car to get to the screen, and this could be changed that way. When I asked evans they told me the trans have to be removed from the car in order to get to the screen and that i still need to have the overhaul even if the screen is changed. And that it would be $2800 + to have this overhaul done.
Another problem I was having, and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this issue or not but here goes: Sometimes when I turn the car off the fan(?) keeps running, have gone back to the car after a few hours and noticed it was MY car the sound was coming from, when touching the hood, could feel that it was my car. Also sometimes I'll get back into my car after goinging someplace and notice my AC would be on/running without the car being on or having even put the key in the ignition. When that happens and I do start the car about 1/2 the time the AC doesn't then want to work. I do turn the AC and fan completely off before I turn the car off. The fan issue started right before we had the radiator changed (changed due to a major leak), and the AC issue started at the same time. Again, I have no idea if at all any of these issues are connected or not.
Any information would help. I'm so confused and lost right now. I love my car, and would really love to be able to drive it again.
Transmission or Transmission Screen?

The following is the link to the above topic regarding transmission fluid and filter change:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 11&t=20278
It is fourth line from the top in this Topics window.
i.e. you can change the filter and remove some of the fluid without removing the transmission from the car.
I think you need to find a repair shop which specializes in Volvo's.
Others will have to comment about the AC problems.
Regarding the fan running on after the car is shut off, I understand that in normal in hot weather but it shouldn't keep running for very long i.e. not for a couple of hours or your battery would go dead.

I went back to Evans, after a half hour of games they finally gave me the only info they claimed to have. Called an actually transmission shop, hope to be taking it in in about a week.
But this is the info I got from the first place.::
"check transmission slip pull codes
TCM-0094 control modual comunication
gear selector lever, signal missing
run flow chart also TSB per code
trace circuits
found trans has internal problem need trans overhaul
Note-if any further problems will need further diag"
