Sport Mode

Post by jbo6924 »

My 98 t5 has the three mode auto trans...E for economy, W for winter, S for Sport.
While driving in sportmode, I punched the pedal got a slightly delayed reaction, and at high speed got a "fluttering" sound and noticed some black smoke from the exhaust. Any ideas?

Did the fluttering sound happen when you released the throttle? From a stop or already moving did you feel a "delay?"

Look at the Blow off valve or dump valve as its known. It sounds like its not holding boost and leaking. This could give bad economy as well.

Sounds like a bad compressor bypass valve on the turbocharger. IPD sells an excellent replacement.
