I just did a timing belt, water pump replacement on my 87 240gl and I have had issues with the car overheating on the first drive of the day. After that, it runs fine with good temperature. I replaced the theemostat and found that the old one was installed upside down, but it still overheated this morning with the new stat installed correctly. Coolant level was fine, and the waterpump is circulating well. Is it the temp sending unit? Why does it work sometimes but not others? Do I need to Burp the system more?
Thanks,
Mike

Another symptom- the cars gauge will be at hot near the redline in the morning for the first 20 minutes or so of driving then it drops off to normal operating temperature. It seems like the car isn't really overheating, just a false reading. But how do I remedy this?
