Replacing fuel pump at 110k miles 2000 V70 GLT?

Post by l8_apex_it »

I have a 2000 V70 GLT with about 110k miles. How long do the fuel pumps typically last? I don't drive long distance much but as the car gets older I would like to replace items that may leave me stranded before I'm ever stranded. Is it worthwhile to replace the fuel pump at 110k miles or is it a complete waste of money at this point?

Input appreciated.

I'm at 170,000 miles on mine and no hiccups as of yet. So long as you've kept your tank from getting to low in the hot months the wear and tear is a lot less. Then again, I am conteplating getting a spare for when mine finally does quit :)

I vote waste of time/money at this point.

My 98 has 203k on it and the original pump. I had one fail at 205k on a Honda, but it was 19 years old at that point.

There is really no predicting when the pump may die. Even a brand new one can fail shortly down the road.

Thanks for the replies. I will wait longer before preemptively changing the fuel pump.

A good tip to determine when it's time to change is when you notice it became harder and harder to start when hot.
2000 V70 XC SE with 150,000 miles, still going great !
