2002 S80 T6 fuel filter

Post by cremmins »

I am trying to replace the fuel filter on my 02 S80 T6. For the life of me, I can't get the filter of the supply lines using the quick-release release tabs. I've tried twisting and pulling and it won't budge.

I'm sure if I had the car on a lift I could get more pressure on the tabs with my fingers but I am doing this in my driveway with a jack. Any suggestions on how to get enough pressure on the tabs to disconnect the filter? It's such a simple job and I'd hate to have to bring it to the shop all because I can't get those stupid tabs pushed in!

Thanks.

Hi mate, I changed the fuel filter on my 99 S80 last year. I first had to remove the 'tape' off the quick release tabs. It was a little hard to get them off but you will eventually with enough twisting and pulling. Try this: While holding the tabs in, use a set of pliers to provide leverage off the main filter housing to 'push' the lines out - worked for me.

Also, plan on using vice-grips or something similar to crimp/squash the fuel lines before you try to remove the lines. Otherwise you will end up covered in petrol - just like I did ;)

I used a small pair of flat edged scissors to remove the quick release connector. The edge of the scissor was flat enough to fit between the nipple on the old filter and the connector. I had to push away from the nipple with the scissors while pushing the line towards the filter. VADIS shows a special, almost horseshoe-shaped tool being used.
