MAF Trouble

MAF Trouble

Started having problems with some rough idling, sluggish take offs with occasional stalls. I had just changed the sparks and wires so I went to the auto parts to hook up to the diagnostic and had the MAF Po133 and Cat P0103 come up. I went ahead and bought one rebuilt MAF and installed it and the car run a lot faster but at idle it went crazy and was very jumpy accelerating and constantly adjusting with no settling after 5 minutes. So I went ahead and put the old MAF on and changed the sparks again and my neighbor who races cars and is well versed in mechanics came over to look at the car and noticed that in the air box intake the is a vacuum operated valve(located in the Y intake on the lower end of the air box )for the air flow intake and he suggested to open that valve to allow the air to flow freely so I was able to hold it open permanently with a large screw and when I started the engine it did wonders and eliminated all stalled take offs but I still get some rough idling. The car now starts and it adjusts quickly and runs good when moving but is a little irregular when idling. I wonder if this can continue or I have to find the real problem to the sickness ailing my volvo. I can afford a mechanic so I have to try to resolve this matter alone. Can anyone help me please?

Yank off the negative battery cable, touch the brake pedal a few times, and then reconnect it. This will let the engine re-set its adaptive from running with a futzed-up fuel trim table. Give it a few days or trips to let it even out, and let us know if it runs any better or worse once it gets used to this "new" setup.

THANKS AGAIN JBLACKBURN, I DID BUY A NEW BATTERY NOT TO LONG AGO......AND MY WIFE OVER FILLED THE OIL A LITTLE1/2 QUART WORTH......I'LL TRY THE ADVISE WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKS. tHANKS
