Ordered ARD Green tune today!

Post by IVIUSTANG »

I ordered an ARD green ECU tune today from Lucky. Complete with SAS removal and rear O2 delete ordered a core ECU as well.

I'll let you all know how this turns out, I'm pretty excited about it as I have recently found my gross evap leak(turned into Idle air control valve code because the hose finally broke all the way through, but it was sure easy to find now that I had a hose with a complete break in it) So now my car is once again running flawlessly :D

In my talks with lucky he said I should easily expect a 2-3MPG gain on the highway under cruising conditions which in reality could be as high as 10%+ in my case; I will definitely document this on my next trip for everyone. I should take delivery of the ECU next week.

$300+50 for the core and $32 Fedex international shipping minus a 5% discount he gives to Facebook followers of ARD. For a grand total of $364.50 including the shipping :D

Just got the tune this morning gave it a quick break-in and test drive and althought it is a BIG speed boost, im kind of disapointed now because I'll never be able to use the power for any length. My car actually feels faster that Dodge Hemi Chargers I have driven, obviously the additional 13 years of refinement in the Dodge makes the fairly noisy engine of the S70 seem like a screamer. I'm gonna get some proper performance numbers and better driving impression in the next couple days.

That's because Hemi's are big, lazy engines with lots of bottom-end torque. The high-pressure turbo 5-cylinders have very little displacement to work with, so they rely on high revs and lots of turbo boost to make power.

I notice the same between my girlfriend's V6 Camry and my car - the Camry accelerates quickly and smoothly with a lot less shouting than the Volvo does, but the Volvo is much quicker when you really mash your foot into the carpet.

I want to know MPG numbers, too!

I plan on getting the White tune in the next month or so. I ran a friend's BSR tune awhile back, which was nice. I'd be willing to bet the ARD tops it.

I don't think you can really compare a T-5 and a Hemi. They both do the same thing, but in completely different ways. I know my 300c is way faster than my Platinum Wagon, but the power delivery on a V8 is linear and the torque is always there. With the turbo you have to make it happen.

I like driving my wagon on the curvy roads to work, and I like my Chrysler for going places. No way I'll drive it in the winter though.

After a few days of driving I have some more impressions from the tune.

I first put the ARD tuned ECU in, and followed the proper initilization/test procedures. Following this I had a bit of fun with my car and was not exactly 100% pleased with the way my car was actng. It seems the transmission was confused to often, when I was accelerating then backing off on the throttle. I can say this problem has completely gone away and the car has learned how to deal with everything smoothly :)

My idle is at 20 inches of vacuum and my max sustained boost is exactly at 17 PSI, achieved mostly in the higher gears at high throttle. I have been using my transmission in economy mode and I feel this is great with the ARD green tune. If I drive with traffic, most of the time my car shifts under 2000 RPM which is great as it keeps friction low and helps fuel economy.

At WOT the car is a beast, it definitely has great pickup off the line; almost instantly boosting at around 10 PSI. Downshift WOT are even more fun, I get 17 PSI easy and the car just hauls.

I like this tune mostly because it makes the car smooth and not have to kick down gears to accelerate at a brisk pace, and for the promise of increased MPG at cruising speeds. Make no mistake though, this tune will make your car rip!

I ordered myself a Green Tune also, it ships tomorrow. BUT, he offered me M4.4 over 4.3, so I took it. I have an OBX exhaust on it so I opted for the rear 02 delete.

All I have to change out beforehand is my intercooler hoses, since they're so spongy I'm sure one will blow. I ordered a set of silicone from FCP....they sound like a pain in the ass to put on, but we'll see.
