So here I am...with Big V

Post by JavaJiver »

I love Volvos. I have always liked them. My friend's parents had the same wagon and sedan from as far back as I can recall until they gave them to their kids.

The wagon saved my life and my friends life when we got plowed into by a drunk driver flying through a stop sign. (The sedan is still running...I think it is 26 years old now!)

How I got my Volvo. I wanted a 2003 or so S60 because I love the lines on the car. I had a nice truck though and since I am a freak about my cars (They take care of me and I take care of them...Never forsake your vehicle and your Car Karma will be great.)

Alas all good things must end and the truck blew its head gasket last Friday. The search began...I was looking for that combo of options. color, miles, price but could not find it. I almost threw down the cash for a new one but held back. It is not that I cannot afford a new S60 or C70 it is...And this is kind of embarrassing...I am terrified of getting a new car. I worry that some madman is going to total it five seconds after I pull off the lot!

I came back to the garage where my mechanic laid out the options:
1) Bury the truck
2) Pull open the engine and see if the block is cracked.
a) Not cracked replace gasket
b) Cracked bury the truck =P

Either way I was paying out on a gamble that I just did not want to take so as a joke I pointed at this 1993 Blue 850 sitting in the parking lot and asked how much. He told me and offered some money that he would get as salvage for the truck as a trade in. I took it.

The car is just over 100k miles. It drives amazingly well. Virtually everything works (except the passenger heated seat and the side view mirror motors) It even has the moonroof. I so missed the moonroof having!

So...That is my story. I have named the 850 "Big V" Yes...I name my cars. My truck was "Truckasaurus". V because it is my fifth car. Big because it has a lot of space inside!

With the money I will have saved on insurance I think i will buy an older Saab Convertible...Or maybe a C70 =D

Thanks for reading.
No no no...The green wire!
