Koni Yellow Shocks (non self levelling) + Eibach Spring Combo for my 850 T5 Wagon

as the title suggests......i've considering the above combo for my wagon's suspension as i'm more for durability + comfort. Apparently the shop says the Eibachs are more comfortable than Apex? (these are the only two branded springs available in my country off the counter)

p.s. i'm also considering POWERFLEX poly bushes for the front, but it seems they only have them for the Front lower control arms (4pieces)?

does this mean the wagon's rear suspension doesnt require bushing replacement? hah!

any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations?

thanks!

Hello folks...

i've just fitted my koni sports + eibach springs...

ride height isnt too low..
with stock 16 rims & tires 205/50/16 i can nicely fit just bout 3fingers upf ront and 2 fingers in the rear.

the shocks are at their softest setting front and rear......and the ride is EVEN more comfortable than the stock volvo shocks & nivomats!

the car's handling is totally confirmed.........well balanced between comfort and performance.......i'm satisfied.

Nice work MoSsElMaN. Post pics if you have any.

How much were the springs/shocks? Did you do the spring seats too? Bushings?

Thanks!

I'll try and get the pics as soon as possible......heh i don't have a digicam so it may take a while folks.

its like this....my freont driver's side bushings were completely ruined.....the driver's side lower control arm had bout 1 to 2mm of free play in it.....(which explains why everytime i brake hard or power hard the car threatens to change lanes by itself.....)

so i changed:

1) both left and right lower arm control bushings to ori lemforder items...(wanted to feel the stock bushings ride comfort)
2) Front bumpstops + Dustboots (the stock items where cracked into half)
3) Front Springs Seats
4) Rear Spring Seats + Shock Mountings
5) driver's side driveshaft cv dust boot ( it was ripped and grease was everywhere...)

all in all it was money well spent..................

btw folks, i'm from malaysia so the price breakdown in RM is as follows:

1) Konis Yellow Sports= RM 2000 (for front + rear)
2) Eibach Pro Kit = RM 1100 (for front + rear)

M,

Thanks for the breakdown on the parts... very informative. Opinions on car repairs/upgrades/parts are always something I look forward to reading :-).

I was in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia a year ago last July. Man, your part of the world is Hot! Great food though :-D.

Not yet, my car is still tip top condition. Previously company car maintained by Federal Auto.

Intend to send it to a volvo specialist at Jln Kuari, KL for oil change soon. You see lots of Volvo 850s there with some s70s and 240s. They allow you to walk around. Thats the part I like best, u can see other peoples cars.

Currently using Bilstein Touring with stock springs, the suspension parts are still good. All the engine mounts are new volvo stock. Car handles very tight, even engine is tight at 270,000 km plus. Very well taken care of

Currently using
Shell Helix Ultra Fully Synthetic.
Volvo Coolant
Volvo ATF

How is your mileage?

270,000km?
whoa that's quite high........my mileage is bout 150,000 km...
what year is your car?

Jalan Kuari? never heard of a volvo specialist there i'm afriad......

The place that i go to is the best i've seen lah....only thing is their price is also a bit on the expensive side...but at the end of the day its worth it.

heh

so do you have any future plans to mod the car? Performance Chip to 285 bhp perhaps? haha

Well, its 1993 850 GLT.

Well since u are from Malaysia, I will give you a free gift. Now there take it:-

You have to make friend with Arrhy (Nickname for Arrhenius), the guy who discovered that a 1 degree increase in temp will double the reaction rate exponentially.

say Volvo designed some part, any part for say

10 years at 100C

if 101C then the lifespan will be 10/2 =5 years only

If 102C then lifespan will be 10/4 = 2.5 years only

If 103C then llifespan will be 10/8 = 1.25 years only

If 104C then lifespan will be 10/16= 7 & half months only.

THESE APPLIES TO ALL THINGS like say ECUs, vacuum hoses, radiator hoses, shocks, springs, dashboard, leather seats etc

moral of story? always make friend with arrhy, KEEP YOUR ENGINE COOL.

Find the lowest temp thermostat you can find. High temp thermos only make mechanics richer.

BTW

Looking for Oil Cooler for transmission fluid (arrhy again), perhaps we can gang up and ask for bulk discount?

B & M Supercooler looks COOL. Just look at volvospeed website

What do you think?
