If you are reading battery voltage only, the brush pach/regulater might need to be replaced. http://www.ipdusa.com/prodtype.asp?CAT_ ... =1053,1306
Mine had to be replaced at 423,000 miles. good luck

volvo_daddy, welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

When you switch on the ignition does the alternator/battery light come on? The bulb in the dash panel is part of the charging circuit. It is required to be functional to supply the initial field voltage to get the alternator started doing its thing. If the bulb is burned out the system will not charge.
