Occational break light & bad milage

Post by nitink »

I have obseved that occationally break light come on (while driving), even when I have not pressed breaks, and it goes off after a few minutes. similarly ABS light comes on and goes in a few minutes.

But during this time I can feel as if really breaks are engaged.
It often happens when I take turn 90 turn and say 15-20mph

Is is normal? Can this have anything to do with bad gas milage..

One more things my rear breaks are due for pad replacement does this break light come due to that?

ABS module is going bad...same thing happened to mine. Eventually the light will come on more often and your brakes will sound too...finally the light will stay on all of the time. Eventually, you should take your module out and sent it to Victor (well documented here) who'll rebuild it and send it back to you...all total of about $140 (shipping included). Volvo wants something like $800 for a new one which will eventually fail again.

I wouldn't be so quick to place the ABS module at fault in this case b/c it's a '95. I'd reccomend that you check the codes on the ABS socket and that might give you a good starting point.

Good point, didn't realize it was a '95. '96 and up are notorious for the ABS module going bad. If you've had a wheel off recently or brake work done it would be worth checking the sensor wiring at the wheels. Other than this, follow what was posted above.

I tried the led board to get codes but there was none, not in any of the brackets. Don't think there is code.

One more observation On a hot day, the car runs very very light.
On cold & rainy day the the car feels as if breaks are lightly pressed, and during those days abs/break light comes .
