They play pre-recorded CDs
As for your own burned CD's, VERY sketchy at best

Burned CDs made in iTunes worked in my 816 (or whatever the top-end is for '97 850s, I forget) right off when I tried back in 2000. I was very surprised.

Try different blank CDs... there are two formats, one is 700MB and the other is a bit more. Brands may make a difference too.

Just for fun, you might try running a lens cleaning disc through it.

The laser lens is dirty. A lens cleaner won't work. Rather use a clean earbud with cottonwool ends to clean the lens. :D

My question may be stupid, but where is the lens ? I can't see it.. I have the radio on my table, I removed the top cover and I don't see anything that looks like a lens. Do I have to dismantle something else to have access to the lens or I'm just blind and I don't recognize the lens ?

Thanks

You need to go to the dealership and have the software update for it to read burned CD's. At least that's the conclusion I made after having done a lot of research after replacing my single disc to the sc-901 a year ago. I never did it, and just use the 6 disc changer in the trunk. I like the surround sound, & the ability to see the songs name when I'm listening to the radio.
