ECU locations

Post by hmcasey »

Hi, 1993 960 wagon, I'm getting a fault code 1-1-2, while in number 2 dia location. So this should be a faulty ecu. Where is this unit located. Long story I pulled the bosch unit locted on the far left/driver side location put in a "new" one and got the same code about 15 min later. Did I pull the wrong ecu. Man this obd 1 stuff drives me crazy!!! Thks Mike

P.S. this is what the code looked like, blink-blink-blink pause blink pause blink-blink-blink-blink then nothing. I read it as 1-1-1, 1-1-2, then nothing. Oh, what does that middle single blink mean?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

I should say you have code 3-1-4. The codes are presented in 3 digit series so your first blink-blink-blink is 3, then a 3 second interval followed by blink which is 1, then a 3 second interval followed by blink-blink-blink-blink which is 4.

Code 3-1-4 is a camshaft sensor code. The sensor is on the rear of the engine. Check the wiring insulation.

Damn!! I guess I was thinking the pauses were t0o long. That would explain, what i was thinking was a middle single blink, as a lone blink. What would be my drive issuses be? Thanks Mike

One more thing, this is what it "looks" like blink-pause,blink-pause, blink-pause---long pause--blink-- long pause blink-pause,blink-pause blink (very short pause) blink. its the short pause ant the end of the code that is throwing me off it's quicker then the other.

With a camshaft sensor code you will experience poor acceleration.

The LED flashes the first number, 3, then pauses for 3 seconds and flashes the next number, 1, pauses for 3 seconds and flashes the last number, 4. If more than 1 code were stored it would pause for 3 seconds and start with the next. In your case you only have one code so it goes back to its normal blink because the selector cable is still in the port. By pressing the button again you can check for further codes. If the same code comes out again there are no more codes stored.

One thing I always do is to read the codes then erase them, run the car and see if they return. Quite often they don't.

Thank You sir!!

I have erased the code numerous times and it comes back within the first minute. It looks like an expensive part. Would it also decrease my mpg?
