Will changing the radio, affect the electrical system? S60

I have an S60, 2003. I bought a Pioneer radio, I want to switch out with the factory radio. My step-dad seems to think that if I change the radio, it will screw up the electrical system and I will need to get it reset by a Volvo dealership. I'm pretty sure just changing the radio, won't affect anything? I have to disconnect the battery first though before I do anything, right?

Removing the radio will not stop other things from working but it will cause numerous fault codes to be in the car every time any fault tracing on the network, if any is done.
The way this is avoided is to have "remove radio" software downloaded which is cheap and takes little time.

The fault codes could give you a message center message at times but otherwise of no consequence except distracting tech trying to fix car if you have troubles later. The software is a dealer or a very well equipped independent using VIDA they susbscribe to from Volvo.

So basically there would be no issues? I could just put it in, and the only problem would be distracting tech, which isn't really an issue, because they can get around that, right?

you are not listening,

the car will ride fine, BUT there will be internal fault codes stored in the ECM. When the car has a CEL light on or is malfunctioning, the tech trying to fix the problem/communicate with the car won't know which codes are significant, etc.

Take the car to the dealer and pay for the remove radio software
