Front Suspension Rattle

Post by motor1947 »

I have a 2001 V70 T5 165k. In the last 10 months I have replaced drive axles, lower control arms w/bushings, and front lower engine mount. I still have a suspension rattle that seems to be coming from the rt front when I hit a rough spot in the road. I'm thinking maybe bad strut but hate to go in blind replacing high dollar parts and working my way through. Any suggestions?

Might be your sway links not fully tightened.

Spring seats are bad. Which means, you are goping to take off springs and struts to replace it. Time to consider new struts if they are originals.

From my experience I can tell that if you hear a clonking noise when you go over a small bump with one wheel only at low speed, then most likely is the sway bar link...

If you open the hood and look under the strut washer (the round black rubber coated washer that the strut nut attaches to) you can most like see that the spring seat rubber is torn Or if you grab the end links to see if they are really loose, this should lead you to the problem. Check the support plate for corrosion and wear while you have the thing apart. Glück!

Like j5t said just twist with your hand that rubber piece on the top of the strut. If you can twist it then it's your spring seat and if it wont budge then it's something else. If the spring seat is the problem it will make a big knocking noise in the front and sway bar link problem is a clicking sound that you can notice at low speed. Hope this can help...

Thanks for the input. Sway bar links were the culprit. Now on to the timing belt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an 05 S80 with 191k miles. Great Car. The car has developed a bumping in the left rear. It drives us nuts!! I have replaced the rear shocks and i have disconnected the stabilizer liniks. This did not fix it. I can make it "bump" when I push up and down on the car. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
