2006 S60 - Where to hardwire radar detector?

Post by dafried »

Newbie here working on my sister's 2006 S60.

I am installing a Valentine 1 radar detector and I am looking to tap into an electrical source that is hot when the ignition is on.

On my car, I used the power window lock switch on my driver door, so that I may turn on and off my radar detector without reaching up and drawing attn to myself.

I have the electrical schematic, but I am no electrical genius. I see a fuse block facing the driver's door which is access to the immediate left of the driver where the door meets the dashboard.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

The fusebox on the side of the dash is contant on. The one on the firewall by your left foot while driving has switched fuses and open switched sockets in the lower level of fuses.

I like your idea on the on/off switch

Very cool - thx for the quick response.

I will see the car on Tue and get a chance to make the install.

If I decide that I can safely add the detector to the power window lock switch, I will post instructions.

FYI - on my car, the power window lock switch still locks windows properly, it just has the added benefit of killing power to my detector when the windows are locked. In my case, the driver's door never locks, even with the window lock on, so it has no negative effect.

Thanks again!

I want to direct wire my radar detector in our 2006 XC90. Does the same apply to this model? I'm aware of the fuse block just inside the driver's door, on the left of the dash. Is there also a fuse block at the firewall? I want this to be switched, just like the cigarette lighter is.

Thanks!

what about the valentine remote concealed display module? Might be easier than finding a switch on the car to wire it to.
