'90 740 GL: Pressure test heater core?

Post by mightyjak »

Someone elsewhere suggested pressure testing the heater core prior to replacement to save trouble. Anyone know how? Seems like a great idea before wading in to that job!

I'm about to do mine, I was told you can rig a bicycle pump with some hose fittings and a bypass cap, and submerge the new core in water to test for leaks. He said about 20psi is all you need. Otherwise, you can take it in to a shop that can test it for you.
If you are repacing the heater hoses, make sure you use OEM , I have found the aftermarket hoses to be greatly inferior.
Good luck
