Rear lower window molding replacement

Anybody know a trick to clean out the remains of the old trim piece and black adhesive enough to put the new one in? If I have to I will pull out the window and then glue it back in. I would like to just cut out what I need to fit in the new molding piece but with the glass recessed a bit it is hard to pull all the rusty bits out. This is on an 850 wagon.
