Helper in Northwestern Chicago Burbs

Post by Choguy03 »

I have a 2000 S40, but consider myself very car literate and am willing to help out with any routine maintance and will help with diagnosis. Any other issues and I will consider them on a individual basis (don't want to help if I am not quite sure how to  )

To add a helper in the Chicago area, I'm in Glen Ellyn and have a '97 850 wagon. I've done a lot of it's repairs on my own and be happy to help anyone in the area - time and knowledge permitted, of course!

I should mention that I now have a 2006 S60R along with the 855 so I can help with that, too!

anyone ever done any rack and pinion seal refresh?
power steering on my 98 v70 is getting really annoying, have to add fluid all the time and its leaving out of a boot all over the condo driveway and neighbors are giving me hard looks.

i got bunch tools and have worked on cars a lot, but never quite done any of this work, so if anyone is willing to help out that would be awesome.

i usually wrench on cars in mt prospect in my parents garage where all my tools are, please let me know if anyone is able to help out.

i found a local place that sells the kit and boot, but dont wanna buy unless i know i/we can finish the job.
thanks in advance

I had the same problem and was able to flush the fluid and replaced it with some Valvoline Transmission Fluid with Stop Leak. I think I got some at AutoZone and NAPA. Give that a try - I was amazed how well it worked. I didn't lose a drop after it was in the system.

I've not done any of that work, but if that still doesn't do the trick, do a quick search here and you should find a write-up that'll help.

I live in Oak Park. I have a 94 850 n/a 5 speed and a 98 S70 T5. I have pretty much done everything myself except change the clutch on the 850. I have a lot of spare parts and am always willing to help out a fellow Volvo owner. I live near the Volvo dealer off of Harlem and I-290.
