2001 Volvo V70 - Won't Start "engine system service urgent"

While leaving this morning I couldn't get the car to start. When the key was in position II the check engine light was flashing and displayed "engine system service urgent" on my messages. The oil light also came on. I checked the oil and everything was fine.
