Driving till empty?

There is some debate out there on whether it is good to drive a car until you are running on fumes. I am a sucker for the "miles till empty" on my trip computer and wait till it reads 5-10 miles left before I fill er' up. It this some how harmful? Should I fill up when my gas light first comes on?

I don't go to E. Over the years the bottom of your fuel tank will accumulate and store every foreign element heavier than gasoline -- water, solids and other junk. Despite marketing claims, Exxon, Mobil and friends' gasoline isn't always pure.

When you go to E you're picking that stuff up and forcing it through your fuel filter, and if it goes beyond that, through your whole fuel system to the injectors.

I agree....good way to clog up your fuel filter faster. I always try to fill up as soon as the low on fuel light comes on.

You should try to NOT go below 1/8 of a tank, too much crud at the bottom of the tank
