You're going to have to remove "Volvo" from the name, seeing as it's a copyrighted trademark and all

That's crossed my mind. About 8 years ago a site changed "volvo" in their domain to "vlv" if I recall correctly to address this (potential) issue.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

This is bogus, i join the petition. I don't understand why they would do this. Wont that crack down on youtube and any other video on the web not posted by its original producer(s)? I don't have stats but i'm pretty sure that all of the movies and music that have been posted (anywhere) actually give better insight to a product, similar to free advertising... If it weren't for any of those sites people wouldnt know what they're getting. Like a review page, those would all be shut down if im correct. Whats MVS without the V?

They say it would "help jobs" in the US because downloaders would go through "official" channels to get what they want. If MVS got taken down, I'd be out of a job and my sys admin would be out a client.

Should this ever come to fruition and be enforced, this site may be on the Radar:
One word (well, ancroym): VADIS
Screenshots, pdfs and soforth that we use from here and share. When we do this, its copyright infringement.
Do/will Volvo care? Who knows but just keep this in mind.
I will say that I think it's unlikely that this site would be persued. Theres more money to be made chasing other forms of copyright infringement, music and video for example.

I don't have a senator or a congressman but I remember raising this point some years ago as we have a very similar, very stupid law in the UK. Matt, you astounded me when you replied that US sites were exempt from such stupidity.
I am 100% behind you so if you can come up with a way to get my lone voice heard in your legislative talking shop let me know.
Bill.

The Safe Harbor law. As long as I don't willingly/knowingly host libel speech (written by me), copyrighted material, etc. I'm ok as owner/admin. It's the very essence the US was founded on. Each is responsible for his behavior.billofdurham wrote: Matt, you astounded me when you replied that US sites were exempt from such stupidity.

As congress is right now, dont you think they will just postphone this ordeal until the next session, and the session after that, and after that? Probably take a few days off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and then who knows, They'll probably all go on vacation! this could be far out. Either way. There's gotta be a way to keep MVS going. Maybe change up the legal (terms) aspect of it.
