What does "Bulb failure position light" indicate?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

You have a bulb out either in the front parking lights, tail lights or, as it has been reported, possibly the number plate light.

Switch on those lights and see if one is out. It is policy with Volvos to replace bulbs in pairs, for example if it is a tail light replace the other side as well.

Same problem here. I actually had the Volvo mechanic go through all the bulbs with me, and we found no burned out bulbs anywhere. He replaced all of the tail lights for me, and I still have the message. He said that some bulbs have silver bases, and some have gold bases, and according to him, the car doesn't like it when you mix them up...? Sounds lame to me.
I'm gonna slam my trunk later, and see if that shuts it up.

This has been proved on more than one occasion. It is also advisable to change bulbs in pairs, as stated in my earlier post. The different bases create a different resistance which can confuse the bulb malfunction system. A similar problem can be found with new and old bulbs.
