WTB: Clean NA wagon shell, 850 or V70

Post by erikv11 »

I wrecked my daily driver, a 96 NA 855, in the rain a few weeks ago. The car still runs great, after the wreck I drove it home 300 miles got usual 29 mpg no pulling on the wheels etc. But on the driver's side there is a 6 inch hole in the floor and both doors are ruined and don't close, the roof line is bent, etc. I owned the car for 10 years too bad ... time to move on. Sort of. :)

To the wrecked car I recently dropped in a 100k engine with rebuilt head, new RMS and other seals, engine mounts, rebuilt steering rack, the whole deal. Before that it had recent raxles, R seats etc, it is very clean. So before I resort to parting it out, I am looking for a non-running or crippled wagon that could accept a boatload of good parts and get me another quality, daily driver.

The only real requirements might be dark or black interior, 1996-98, and AC working well. But I'm open to ideas, let me know what you have. Must be a non-turbo wagon.

I've got a '96 855, maroon, quite stunning from 10 feet away. Sixteen inch wheels (one is blemished, others clean) with decent tires. Interior is clean but light beige vinyl with the rose carpeting on the lower doors. Most everything works on this wagon. It's driveable though the engine has a clinking sound, possibly a wrist pin or loose piston, and idling issue until it's warmed up. Odometer doesn't work, stopped at 155k. I bought it as a project car. It's stored outside for the winter.

The car's in Minneapolis. How much were you thinking about spending?

Thanks for the reply. The engine trouble is not a big deal, I would just swap mine in, but the beige vinyl interior is almost a deal killer, and my wife says no maroon or red if at all possible. Engine and trans swap fine but I do not really want to swap interiors in a cold garage, just more time (and broken plastic) than I want to put into this. So that's not going to work.

As an aside, do you know anything about a shop in Minneapolis that sells Volvo parts and cars? I saw one of their cars advertised on Cragslist, they don't speak English well maybe Russian or something, hard to get info from them.

Okay on the maroon wagon. I'm not desperate to sell it. Having driven it around for a hundred miles or so I kind of got to like it. The car does draw looks!

The only indy in this area I'm aware of is Glasgow Volvo repair in St. Paul. Volvos are all they work on. Maybe just an interesting coincidence but I ran into a Russian man harvesting from Volvos at a UPull junk yard in this area recently. I might swing by that shop and find out what they know about the tricky little issues that keep us hand-wringing too often.

Good luck in finding just the right shell.

I have a 96 850 turbo that has a burnt valve. If you're going to do an engine swap it would work it is pewter perfect body, but tan/black interior. It's in TN. Still driving it with the Valve issue.

Alas, a non-turbo (i.e., NA) engine can not just be dropped into a turbo car. Some things like ECU would be easy to switch but exhaust and wiring harnesses, maybe some other things?, make them somewhat incompatible.

But thanks!
