Trailer light wiring install?

Post by jh_on_the_cape »

I searched and found some semi-useful info. I have the wiring harness pulled from a junk Volvo 850, where I also got the tow bar.

I think I need to pull the driver's side speaker panel? Then use those wiring crimp connectors to tap into the existing wires. The question is which color wire is which? I plan on just letting the harness dangle in the trunk in the summer when I use the trailer, then stuff it all into the space behind the cover when the boating season ends.

Thanks!

I am still looking for wiring help. Maybe just where to tap into the turn signals, brakes, etc? What color are those wires? This does not need to be super clean. I was planning on just slamming the trunk down on the wires and having them dangle, not running them out to the hitch.

If you check the repair data base, you can get the wiring diagrams. Just splice into the current wires. Look on page 60 and you should be able to see what you are looking for.

thanks for the link but I still do not know were to access the wires what color does which lights. Those diagrams are a bit cryptic for a beginner.
Any help before I do trial and error with a multimeter and that diagram? I just need to know what color wires do brakes and turn signals and where to tap in.

Thanks.

I am out here and have the wiring harness that is on the drivers side tail gate. I just need to know which color wire is the left turn, right turn, brake, and tail (nightime) lights. That pdf file is not helpful to me. I am doing trial and error with a multimeter and it's frustrating.

Please help! Thanks.

The wire colors are on the diagrams. There is a chart on page 2 called, "How to use the diagrams" that breaks it down.

Ok, so on the driver's side rear light, the left turn signal is green, and the brake light is yellow-grey and it looks like the tail lights have two wires, one red-white and the other green-yellow. The right turn signal is blue-green. Hope this helps.

I am trying the same. Did it work?

I am mystified by "it looks like the tail lights have two wires, one red-white and the other green-yellow"

right and left tail lights are on different circuits... at least on 2000 year v70s. A safety thing I assume.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Q2 - Totaled in 2022. Not my fault.
