Hey guys,
I noticed that my 850R has developed a power steering leak. I cannot see the leak and I have to bring the level from the "add" mark to the "hot" mark every 3 days or so. So far I've been filling it up with Valvoline Synthetic ATF and I have some Castrol ATF when the Valvoline runs out.
I noticed some good reviews on the Lucas Oil Power steering stop leak. Can you mix this stuff with the ATF that is already in the car? I wanted to just top it off with Lucas the next time it got to the "add" mark, or should I wait for it to leak nearly empty before adding the Lucas stuff in?
Thanks

You can just throw it in whenever there's room, it will get pumped round the system pretty quickly.
Don't be disheartened if it still leaks for a bit, just top off with a little more and eventually (if it's going to) it will seal.

If you don't want to wait you can always suck the reservoir clean with a turkey baster or something and fill it with the Lucas PS stop leak fluid. Lucas has worked wonders for me in the past with oil, tranny and power steering. An 850R is a really nice model Volvo and if it were mine I'd want to repair the leak instead of trying to slow it down or stop it with stop leak fluid. You can find source of leak or did I miss something in your post. Did you check the fluid lines? Is this just a temporary fix until you can really take care of the leak?Srini850 wrote:Hey guys,

Thanks guys, I think according to this post erikv11 posted I will try the Valvoline stop leak first since it is actually ATF.
Thanks. Yes I would really like to repair the leak. I have checked the lines but can't find any noticeable leaks but I'm going to check it again today. I live in an apartment while going to school so it is really hard to check or repair anything in the parking lot while it's this cold. I am trying to use this as a temporary fix and if it still leaks, I will try to repair the hoses and check the entire system in my parent's garage when I go home in about 2 weeks.shiloh51933 wrote: you don't want to wait you can always suck the reservoir clean with a turkey baster or something and fill it with the Lucas PS stop leak fluid. The pump is easy and relatively cheap to replace - it is the steering rack I'd be far more worried about.Roman2Reigns wrote: ↑04 Apr 2019, 09:14Why would you want to swell the seal to stop a leak? that seal will blow and you will be going to Pep Boys for a new ps pump.Srini850 wrote: ↑29 Nov 2011, 23:16 Hey guys,

Google says you just unbolt the rack and remove...sounds easy enough...
