This year both my expansion tank and radiator both split. Then found out the previous owner had taken out the thermostat! He also ripped out the alarm/immobiliser so that key/zapper replacement would be cheaper. Was quoted £700+ to get new immobiliser/keys/alarm! The couple o the wee light bulbs in the dash switches have gone too, replaced at £4.50 each! Total ripoff but it bugged me not to change them!

99 v70 xc with 92k
Transmission failed at 92k. Just had a Volvo remanufactured unit installed with a long brand transmission cooler. It appears that before I bought the car @77k the fold had never been changed. Small failure inside turned into a chunk of metal in one of the coolant races which lead to a failed bearing which led to mass chaos leading to even the case being shot.
Fasteners from the drivers side door failed and it's a bit loose
Top engine mount failed.

This is a disheartening list.....If another thing goes on this, that's it!
Anyone actually crunch the numbers on time spent fixing/new parts etc. versus just getting another car?
How do these (in my case a non turbo 98 v 70 built in Belgium) compare to other cars for issues?
Terry

Terry, people come here because they have problems, not because their Volvo is running well. Maybe that perspetive will lighten your heart a bit.

Feel free to start a new topic on time vs. new car. I've got to lock this topic so that people don't waste time voting on parts failures that will not carry over when the new poll is launched. We're currently harvesting a new round of failed 850-and-siblings parts here.

This poll has been deprecated in favor of the new, improved 100-choice Mega Failed Parts poll.
Thank you.
