1989 240 DL "in-tank fuel pump"

Post by broke wagon »

I recently installed an intank fuel pump for my daughters sedan who lives about 200 miles from me. It ran good for about a week and then it started having stalling problems. I found a local Volvo mechanic and told him about the pump I had installed. He asked me if I had soldered the electrical connections.... which I hadn't. I just used the nuts to fasten them.
Has anyone installed the intank pump without soldering the wires and had the same problem? I am having the same running problem with my wagon as well...

I found a Volvo mechanic to check out the fuel pump problem with my daughters 89 240. He said there's a epoxy sealed section on top of the pump assembly that the wires run through. Some how the wires were damaged... hum?? well it works now..

I haven't heard of the necessity to solder the wires but some people make jobs harder than they should be.
