Radio powers up but doesnt work?
I purchased this vehicle with the radio not working. i got the code3 and tryed to reset found out it was not even hooked up. So i hook back up and reset the code and i get power, the display comes on however the tape player will not work, i try to tune the radio and everything comes blank soft low static even when turned all the way up I try to auto tune and it will just continuing auto tuning, the cd player was not with the car when i purchased. evrything is connected in the back(antenna, two harness plugs) My question is is this a problem with my antenna or is there something i am missing, amp, CD Payer? and last if i grab a cd deck is there a way to figure out the wireing to splice it myself?

I would guess the antennas are not plugged in

ok well I have been to dang busy to bring the model number back in with me but it is the model made in 850's 93 through 97 that had the cd player connection. It is missing the cd player I get power to it but it reacts like it cannot pull a signal from the antenna. It is plugged in the fuse is not blown the manual helps me with nothing involving the antenna as to where all the connections are located anything helpful is not in there for this. I KNOW I am repeating my previous post but... I NEEED THIS! are there any connectors i should check(the more i dig in this ride i find things unplugged everywhere, EXAMPLE I just got another dang motor for my window because it wasnt rolling down i pull the panel unbolt the motor just to see it is not plugged in) any connectors at back front middle whatever please let me know i will check them. i JUST found out the heater core has been bypassed and know there are a few places where wires run through round there could there be connections there? If not any other ideas again the tape player will not accept a tape in there (if you may suggest replacing the stock radio just gimme a way/solution to figure out these wires to put an aftermarket stereo) Ima do some more digging tomorrow if i find the solution i will post it for future references to yall. If you have read all this.... Dang I hope you got an idea either way thanks for your time and consideration.

The model number of the radio is printed on its face and will be something like SC-810 or SC-812 - there were a number of options depending on the model year.
If it is an SC-813 or lower I would be inclined to just buy another radio off of eBay or from a local junk yard - they tend to go for around $35.00 - avoid the SC-810s since they have a horrible problem with the Bass, Treble, and Fader controls that cause them to get static or just cut off the front or rear speakers.
For an upgrade you can look at the SC-815 or SC-816 that has a CD player as well. The models with the CD player seem to go in the $100.00 range.
Does your antenna come up when you turn the unit on?

Well I will get the serial asap But i think there are only two models(I THINK) for the model car (1995 850 turbo) and I have the one with the cd player, It was just disconnected when I purchased the vehicle, as well as there have been things popping up everywhere that I have noticed have been screwed with that I was not aware of. The issue is the radio displays everything correctly and the speakers get a very lite fuzz however there getting something so I know there getting power, But it acts like it cannot tune anything I hit the auto tune and it will continue seaching through stations. So my guess is antenna. searching through the trunk looking for the wireing for the antenna the other day I found this bunch of wires right around the antenna insdie the trunk (picture below). These wires were found unplugged and there is no sign of what they were plugged into. I think these are to an original antenna but maybe Im wrong if anybody has any ideas about what these mystery wires are please let me know as well as if there are any other things to be looked at or tryed to fix this situation

The code will be different but you can go to any Volvo dealer and get the correct code based on the numbers on the radio. I always deal with the parts counter when I need a code. My wife has even managed to get a code over the phone but they sometimes want you to somehow prove legitimate ownership.mrscottg89 wrote:ONE more thing I forgot. Most of us have just used a Sharpie and written the code on the top or the side of the radio so you may not even need to do that. It may already be there.
